Before we left, I competed at the NPC Pittsburg IN BIKINI!!! At 45! It was a grueling prep, with less protein, more glute work, overall great experience. I really liked how I looked here, more than any other show (20+ in the last 15 years) I've done, or any division I've ever tried.<br />

Now I'm on a mission to find a job! I'm hoping to find a nice private, small place that I can work with small groups. I miss all my past clients and I hope you are ALL still striving to make healthy eating and working out your LIFESTYLE! XO<br />

See everyday as Friday...<br />

Today was Friday. I got up much more motivated to have a great day. I made the boys lunches and breakfast with MUCH more enthusiasm. After they left for school, I went to a spin class (which is a rare occurrence for me) and really pushed myself. Lungs BURNING! I ate well, prepped food for lunch and mid afternoon, and now am adding a blog post (something that is ALSO unfortunately a rare occurrence for me). I'm looking forward to this evening, just hanging out with family.<br />
<br />
So why can't I make EVERYDAY Friday? Why cant I "reason" my brain into seeing everyday like today? What could the possibilities be? I'd be much more productive, and a much better mom and wife.<br />
<br />
It's simple PERCEPTION. I believe Fridays have this magical LIFT about them, so the whole day seems so much "better"? What our brain perceives, we believe.<br />
<br />
What if you told yourself, you were WORTH treating well? You deserved to take care of yourself. Eating healthy WASNT hard or time consuming, but WORTH it? Getting a workout in, a yoga class, a long walk with your significant other is good for your body AND mind. Worth the time and effort.<br />
<br />
What if we stopped talking to ourselves in such negative ways? "I'm so fat and lazy right now. What is wrong with me? Why cant I get my butt to the gym? Why do I always fail on this diet?" As I sit here, in early February, waiting for my MOJO to kick in, this day has been a blessed eye-opener for me. How fortunate I am to have a Friday like this. How I will try to see EVERYDAY as Friday from now on.<br />

Thats my goal for 2014. It's only taken me 37 days to figure it out, lol! Hope your year has started out, all that you wanted it to be, and you PERCEIVE all the blessing you have. Some days I have to REALLY focus on the fact that it's OK to not be in contest shape all the time. It's actually NOT possible. Finding balance in the day to day diet and workout routine is tough for me right after a show. I find myself still trying to eat egg whites for breakfast.... and wanting to go back to the gym a SECOND time at night.... hoping my butt will stay tighter just a little longer....<br />
<br />
But in my logical mind, I know that I can add yogurt, fruit or a wrap with those eggs, and still be ok. I can go for a walk with my boys, or throw the baseball at night instead of climbing the dreaded stepper. And yes, my butt jiggles when I jump today.<br />
<br />
I tell my clients "If you cannot eat or train the way you are today, FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, then you are on the wrong program.<br />
<br />
Fitness is a lifestyle. Healthy eating is a lifestyle. I'm 43 and pretty sure that I've figured it out, but still struggle with my emotional brain at times. I slip up, but am pretty darn good most of the time.<br />

It's ok. No one is perfect and no one eats perfect 100% of the time. When you see those people or trainers telling you that you CANT have a donut, run the other way! Create your own balance, learn to enjoy it, and live your life!<br />

My warm up show in Media PA, I took second. It gave me a great idea of WHAT I needed to tweak for my big show.... in NJ. At this show (Team Universe) I was in a class of 15 women, all over the age of 40. I came in 7th. These older women are tough! I felt great, it was the best i've ever looked.<br />

I'm currently 3 weeks out from Team universe. I decided to do Figure here, because they have an OVER 40 category! This makes me very happy. So I'll be in a group of 40 somethings... not 30's!<br />
<br />
I started prepping 12 weeks, but only cleaned up my diet 100% in the last 6. Although, I've been doing some heavy REFEEDS/CHEATS with amazing success. It's weird....<br />
<br />
I want to call it CALORIE CYCLING. There are people who carb cycle or fat cycle (do 2-3 low days followed by 1-2 high days... to keep the body guessing). Well my style the last 4 weeks has been to basically do 2 pretty low cal days (1500) followed by 3 that are slightly higher in FAT (1750) followed by 2 crazy HIGH days (couldn't even begin to estimate... maybe 3000ish?) Every week, for the last 4 weeks, i've continued to drop a pound by doing the above. I love the results and it's something that works for ME.<br />
<br />
AFTER 13 years of competing, trying 3-4 different prep coaches, figuring out MY body and how it responds... the above seems to be my happy place. I dont feel like I'm "missing out" on any foods I really like. I have them at least once a weekend. The only thing I truly miss is my Wine (that's for another blog day).<br />
<br />
I'm about 2-3 lbs away from where I normally compete pretty shredded. my glutes are still soft, there's still some body fat there. I'm not HATING them, but they could be leaner. 3 more weeks should do it.<br />
<br />
i've also been working on my waist line. I'm not going to say HOW just yet, until I see the "after" pics on show day.<br />

What a whirlwind the last 3 months have been. I competed in the Pacific Muscle Classic, in the fitness division. I was the only one, but it was a great way to end our 4 years in Okinawa. We miss it!<br />

We've almost unpacked every box, and are now living in Mechanicsburg PA. The boys have a GREAT school, we have fabulous neighbors, and i'm on the hunt for a JOB. I've found a small gym on the navy base here, and it's free, so that's my workout space for now.<br />

I have my eye on a show later this year, but still working out the details. Not fitness, just figure. My fitness skills are not good enough to compete in the states.... but I can do 1/4 turns, lol!<br />

Feeling really good. My diet is so nice. I'm doing Waaaaay more fats AND carbs than I ever have, and am losing each week, with energy to push thru my workouts. It's just the wine I miss.....<div><br /></div><div>The workouts ARE hard. Training for fitness is like no other training I've ever done. It' combines, weight training, plyos, gymnastics, cardio, and balance in a psychotic, fast pace intensity. It takes me 30 min to warm up and prepare to practice my routine. Then, I usually spend 20-30 more minutes, actually going thru the moves. Those 30 min literally kill me. Can barely catch my breath. Have yet to get thru my entire routine all together, pretty :/ But that day will come. The adrenaline you have, onstage, as the music starts, help to carry you thru.</div><div><br /></div><div>I usually do a second workout on many days, mostly more cardio just to bring myself down overall. And I've had to cut back on my lifting. I do maybe 20 min 4x a week. Mostly back, arms, legs, and some shoulders. My body is sore 24/7 but it definitely gets results. </div><div><br /></div><div>We will be leaving Okinawa shortly after the show. Just a couple weeks later. I will miss it here. I'm trying to do and see everything we know we'll miss, while training for this show. For some reason, I think it's helping me get thru the tiredness and soreness. I competed in fitness at the NOrth Americans 2 years ago, and just didn't feel like I fit. The girls at that level are TOUGH. They can split, flip and jump to places I'll only dream of. But here, I feel I fit. Plus, this is my last show on Okinawa. i want to be up there with my girls!<br /><br />10 years ago when my husband and I were stationed here the first time, I did fitness at Fosters show. My friend Corry Matthews and I helped MCCS put a fitness division together, to go along with their bodybuilding show. There were only 5 of us, but we had a great time. I ended up taking the show, very exciting!<br /><br />So 10 years later, I'm going to do it again. At the ripe old age of 42, I'll be back up there "trying" to split, flip and jump higher than ever. I'm ahead of my prep this time, only 7 lbs to go. Training for fitness takes about 3 hours a day: warm up, routine practice, cardio or weights, and stretching after. I have been a BAD BAD BLOGGER, huh? It is the end of jan 2012. I am now on a mission..... secretive mission. I have a plan for myself and it wont be easy or pretty.... but i have a new goal for the summer! Physique just put the nail in my NPC career. I was too hard and lean for them, and I refuse to put on more muscle for a bunch of judges. I like the amount of muscle I carry. I am DONE with the NPC but have another interesting organization I like. Please stay tuned and I will promise to keep up with my blogging.<br /><br />Right now, I'm really having a hard time staying motivated. it's hard to admit this. I dont like telling people about my bad days because I'm the trainer, right? Well, even we have roadbumps and get down on ourselves. I might even call it downright DEPRESSION some days?! Mine started right after my show last summer, when I got home. I have a wonderful group of neighbors who love to drink and be social. So I got caught up with these fantastic women, and started making some bad habits.<br /><br />Also had an "injury". My elbow was really hurting me all thru my training last summer. So for about 4 months I babied my elbow, but it got really bad about November. I couldn't even brush my teeth or pick up a cup... so after trying all kinds of things... I sucked it up and got a steroid injection in my "tennis" elbow. NOW, seems like the other elbow is starting to hurt, so i'm icing and babying that one. We'll see what happens, but i'm pushing thru.<br /><br />Feb 1st will be a BIG day for me! I'm committed to drinking only on the weekends, and pushing hard thru my training. Getting back on a scheduled eating program and not missing a workout. My husband left for 3 weeks, but i think it might help me stay tighter to schedules, etc. I'll be hiring a neighbor to babysit 3 evenings a week so I can go to the gym. By the middle of Feb, my head will be RIGHT!<br /><br />Thanks if you are still out there, lurking at my sorry blogging skills. I placed 4th in fitness at the North American in the tall class. Shortly after, the npc changed the rules for fitness, making the routine more than HALF of the total scoring. Since my routine wasn't strong, I was almost sure fitness wasn't for me... so now what?<br /><br />WELL!... The npc also introduced a NEW category called Womans Physique Division (WPD), at all National Shows this year. Its basically for a women who's body is between a figure and bodybuilder, they want the woman smaller than bbers, with more feminine posing (openhanded, on toes, no most muscular), and less hardness, dryness, and striations. I feel that I would fit here physically, best. I do not have a small frame or an upside down martini-glass look that they like in figure. I do not want to be any BIGGER, so def not straight up bodybuilding. So I'll try to bring up my legs just a bit more, and work on my abs.... and get the posing down (with help from Zoa Linsey here in Oki!!!)<br /><br />Now for my prep, I can finally eat carbs, AND lift heavy, maintain muscular size and shape, and just go into a show strong and full. I spoke to Tanji Johnson at the show and she told me I should go to a National Fitness show next. THAT made me very nervous....<br /><br />The last National fitness show of the year is the North Americans, back in Cleveland OHIO the first weekend of Sept. This is the same show I did last year, but in figure. Last year, there was only ONE TALL FITNESS COMPETITOR..... but at this show you have to win the overall to get a pro card...<br /><br />I've given it some thought, and i'm pretty sure it's my plan. I'll take the boys back to visit the family at the same time, and drive up to the show from my moms house. We aren't sure yet if Jim can go with us, he may be deploying in Aug.<br /><br />Either way, i'm in..... still very nervous.<br /><br />I've decided to work with Tanji on tweaking my routine. there are a few things I'd like to change, so I've already begun that.... I'll start dieting again mid June. Till then, I have my 14 figure first-time competitors I'm helping for the June 6 show here in Japan. Been dieting HARD this week, and could feel the lack of energy today. <br /><br />I do feel good about my physique, another 2 weeks and I'll be right where I need to be.<br /><br />And my routine is coming together nicely. Gabe has been sick for 3 days so I haven't had much practice. Def stronger because I've rested, but def RUSTY with some of the movements. <br /><br />There are parts I still havent perfected yet (the turney, steppey, where-the-hell-am-I-going parts!) I'd like things to look cleaner and sharper, so have to practice the little things in between routine work. <br /><br />My goal is to do the whole routine at least TWICE a week, that will work for me now.
